P2000 FAQ
Where can P2000 be used?
The P2000 Insulation System is as a breakthrough construction material that can be used in new residential and commercial construction, agricultural real estate as well as renovations and retrofit construction projects.

What is P2000?
P2000 is constructed of two safe components: (1) Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) bonded with (2) an aluminized polyester film, which is reflective, but not flammable (like foil).

What is EPS?
The EPS core is an innovative building material that lends to the design and structural integrity of the building project. Since the 1950's, EPS has been recognized as a mainstream insulation material. EPS is one of the most environmentally friendly polymer products made today.

How can a thinner insulation provide a better thermal result?
Expanded Polystyrene has the lowest thermal conductivity (transmission of heat) of any solid material known. Because the Performance Value of P2000 is superior to other insulation materials, a much thinner product provides superior performance.

How does The P2000 Insulation System help prevent mold & mildew problems?
Since P2000 absorbs virtually no moisture, it cannot grow mold or mildew. The White (wpr) or Silver (rpr) coating is waterproof and can be wiped clean.

I have existing insulation that is covered in Mold. How do I utilize P2000?
Mold and mildew poses a serious health problem. The damaged insulation must be removed as well as all signs of the mold. After that has been done, you can install P2000 directly over the stud wall, leaving the cavity empty. This will assure a complete seal without the risk of thermal bridging. You will have a more comfortable room which will heat and cool more efficiently.

How Long will P2000 last?
P2000 is a Long-term Insulation Value which carries a 20 year written warranty. The Expanded Polystyrene inner core, will last for a very long time, assuring insulation longevity in the building structure, without any adjustment for aging. The main component of P2000, EPS, is recyclable should the building ever be repurposed.

Does P2000 off-gas?
Unlike most other foams that are compressed using gases, the P2000 foam sheets are formed using steam (water vapor) eliminating harmful gas vapors emitted from many foam products.

Should I be concerned about fire risk?
The P2000 Insulation System has a Class A fire rating. The standard fire spread rate for exposed wall material in US and Canadian homes is 150. The UL listing on P2000 certifies a very low flame spread rate of 5 (Very Good).

Is P2000 carcinogenic (can it cause cancer)?
P2000 is made of inert products. It does not off-gas, does not require special equipment for installation and is not a carcinogen. P2000 is not an attractive food source for vermin or small animals, so we don't have to treat it with dangerous chemicals.

How do I cut P2000?
P2000 is usually cut with common wood working tools, which must be kept very sharp at all times to cut smoothly.

How do I bond P2000?
P2000 can be bonded with adhesives that do not destroy it. Water-based adhesives are a good choice. P2000 can also be screwed on utilizing our special caps to prevent heat loss. See the installation manual for additional instructions.

I want to insulate outside of my building with P2000 then apply my siding. What thickness can I use?
You may use up to the thickness that your siding will allow. For example if you are siding with a product such as Hardie Board, the maximum thickness is 1 inch. Check with the siding manufacturer for specifications of board insulation thicknesses.

How long can P2000 be exposed outside without covering it?
P2000 can remain uncovered/exposed to the sun for up to 90 days.

What makes P2000 so much better than other board products?
Four things make P2000 superior to any other product on the market.
  • P2000 is laminated on both sides with a polyester reflective coating that is waterproof as well as a vapor barrier.
  • P2000 has self sealing tabs assuring a complete closure of product.
  • The inner core of P2000 is Expanded Polystyrene.
  • P2000 has a written 20 year warranty.
  • P2000 offers a complete building envelope assuring the highest performance.
